In her second year of living in freezing Boston, Louisiana transplant Feliciana Fruge misses everything about home: the food, Grandma, and above all, feeling proud of her Cajun heritage. Desperate to prove to her bully that she’s more than a backwoods bayou kid, she enters an art competition that could make everyone forget about her Southern roots if she wins. But her plans are complicated by the surprise arrival of Roux, a well-meaning-but-rambunctious swamp monster with magical powers who is nothing if not unapologetically himself.
